His father Anvar Ibragimov won a gold medal in team foil for the Soviet Union at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. His mother Olga Velitchko also represented the Soviet Union, the Unified Team and the Russian Federation at fencing and won gold in individual foil at the 1989 World Championships in Denver, CO, United States of America and in team foil at the 1986 World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria. She also competed at the Olympic Games in 1992 and 1996. His wife Anna German is a former sabre fencer and a Master of Sport in the Russian Federation.
