Her father Ian competed in athletics and twice won the Scottish 1500m title. Her sister Rosie Smith has competed in mountain biking at international level, while her brother John has competed in road cycling and track cycling at the world championships. He won a bronze medal in the mixed team relay at the 2019 World Road Cycling Championships in Yorkshire, England. Her cousin Theo Archibald is a professional footballer who played in England for League Two's Macclesfield Town in the 2019/20 season.
