Cousins Marco and Esteban Grimalt have spent their entire beach careers playing together since they switched to the sand from the indoor volleyball in 2010. In 2016 they became the first Chilean beach volleyball players to compete at the Olympic Games. In Rio they were eliminated following the pool phase, without a victory from their three matches.

The cousins won their first World Tour medal, a silver, at the 2014 Parana Open in Argentina. They had to wait until 2018 before they claimed a maiden World Tour title, with victory in Tokyo over Serbia's Stefan Basta and Lazar Kolaric making the Grimalts the first Chilean players to win a World Tour title. In 2019 they went on to add a further two World Tour gold medals, with victories in Sydney and Doha. They are the reigning Pan American Games champions following their triumph at the 2019 edition in Lima, Peru.

Marco and Esteban come from a family of volleyball players. Their fathers are two of seven siblings who all played international volleyball for Chile, while Esteban's mother, Monica Fuster, captained the Chilean women's volleyball team.
