FAMILY PARTNERSHIP
He carried on a family history of international volleyball and beach volleyball by partnering with his cousin Esteban. The pair played their first tournament together in 2006. "In the history of Chilean volleyball, the Grimalt name has played a very important role in the development of the sport. We have known each other our whole life. We grew up together. Our family is very close." Speaking in early 2020, Esteban said the cousins have no plans to stop competing together soon. "We haven't thought deeply about what we want to do when we're done playing and we plan on being on the courts for several more years, but I'm sure we'll remain involved with the sport in some capacity. Maybe we'll help promote the sport or support the development of volleyball in Chile. These are some things we'd love to do more now, but we don't have the time."
