AUTHOR
In 2019 she released a children's book called, 'The Magic of Basketball'. "It's for someone who is on the path to becoming a professional athlete or just a regular person who enjoys sports, the message is for everyone. Through children's books, I can teach and share important lessons and messages with kids. It's a way for me to continue my art and teach and share the love of basketball that I have. If I'm being honest, I let fear stop me from putting this out there for such a long time because I kept thinking, 'What if it's not good enough? No one really knows me so no one's going to buy it? Who am I to write this book?' And then I had to be in my head and be like, 'Kayla, no, be bold - you're always teaching kids to try new things and be unafraid, so do that yourself. Live your truth.'" VISITING SENEGAL
She has done volunteer work in Senegal through the Right to Play charity. "[It was] unreal. I'd never been to Senegal or Africa, and it was amazing. I'm a big advocate for using basketball as a vehicle to help build up young adults. Being able to share and to speak on the importance of having young girls stay in sport - and I did that in French. You could see the search for knowledge there among the kids. One of the things I love the most about basketball is that it's such a global sport and it brings people together, regardless of your ethnicity, the language you speak and your gender."
