General Interest

General
Poland debuted at the Olympic Games in 1980 in Moscow. It was another 24 years before they made their second appearance at Athens 2004, where they achieved their best Olympic finish of fifth. They did not reach the final at Beijing 2008 or London 2012, but did manage to progress from their heat at the 2016 Games. They originally finished seventh in Rio, but were promoted to sixth in 2020 following the disqualification of the Ukraine team.

The Polish team arrive in Tokyo in impressive form. They claimed gold at the 2019 World Relays in Yokohama ahead of the United States of America, and then won silver at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, this time finishing behind the US team. They also won silver at the 2021 World Relays behind Cuba. At the 2018 European Championships, the Polish team celebrated their first gold medal at the competition by finishing ahead of France and Great Britain.
