General Interest

General
Great Britain are the only nation to have competed in all 12 editions of the Olympic Games to feature the women's 4x400m relay since 1972. They won their fourth bronze medal at the 2016 Games in Rio, finishing behind the US team and Jamaica. Four years earlier at London 2012 they originally finished fifth but were later promoted to fourth after the Russian team were disqualified for an anti-doping violation. It is a similar story at the 2008 Games, where they originally finished fifth but this time were promoted to the bronze medal after retrospective disqualifications of the Russian and Belarusian teams. Great Britain also won bronze in 1980 and 1992, and have only failed to qualify for the final once, in 1996 in Atlanta.

Great Britain placed fourth at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, finishing 0.65s behind bronze medallists Jamaica. The result ended the British team's run of seven consecutive podium finishes at the competition since 2005, which included five bronze medals and two silver medals.

The British team claimed bronze at the 2021 World Relays in Chorzow behind winners Cuba and runners-up Poland.
