General Interest

General
Great Britain have contested the 4x100m relay at 17 editions of the Olympic Games, a record that is bettered only by the United States of America's 19 appearances. A British team did not contest the first Games to offer the women's event in 1928, but did feature in all but one [1992] of the remaining Games in the 20th century. During this time they won two silver medals and five bronze, including a bronze the last time Japan hosted the Games in 1964 in Tokyo.

In the 21st century Great Britain have been less consistent, missing out on the 2004 Games as well as the 2012 Games in London after failing to qualify. However, the team marked their Olympic return at Rio 2016 with a bronze medal in what remains their fastest time at an Olympic, Commonwealth Games, world or European championship event.

At the world championships, Great Britain have claimed three medals from the last four editions, including back-to-back silver medals in 2017 and 2019 behind the United States of America and Jamaica, respectively. Their time in 2019 was just .08s slower than their 2016 Olympic bronze medal-winning time.
