The Czech Republic secured their ticket to Tokyo via the world rankings, and are making their Olympic debut in Tokyo. Before separating from Slovakia in 1993, the former Czechoslovakia competed in the event at the 1980 Games in Moscow, finishing seventh in the final.

On the world stage, the Czech Republic have appeared at four editions of the world championships from 1997 to 2019, but have never progressed from the heats. Their best result is a final ranking of 11th at the 2019 edition. It is a similar story in three appearances at the World Relays, where their best final ranking of 10th occurred at the 2021 edition.
