In 2019 he made minor adjustments to his drills, nutrition, hydration, supplements and weight training, which he said contributed to improved performances. "I've seen the most improvement in my leg strength and the co-ordination between the arms, legs and body position. When I didn't run well last season [2018], it was always my finish that was off and I think it came from my body position and flexibility. My legs couldn't move as fluid as they needed to over the last 150 metres, so when everything tightened up, my range of motion shortened a ridiculous amount. I was stumbling with 75 metres left." BEST SEASON IN 2019
Despite his failure to make the 800m final at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar, he said 2019 was still his best season, and that it had made him more determined to improve in 2020. "Unfortunately, my [2019] season ended one race sooner than I wanted, in the semifinal round [of the world championships]. If I said I was anything less than devastated, I'd be lying. The 800m is a brutal and cut-throat event, which is part of the reason I love it. I made a few bad moves tactically and boy, did she punish me. This is one of the hardest things I've gone through in my career, because I'm in the best shape of my life. Even though I didn't make the final, this has been by far the best season I've had. Even though the season didn't end the way I would've liked, I'm still proud of the improvements I've made this year. I'm more motivated now than I've ever been. Bring on 2020. I can't wait."
