ATHLETICS OVER FOOTBALL
He took part in both football and athletics growing up and played youth football for Jamaica up to U17 level, before choosing to focus on an athletics career. Speaking in May 2020, he said if he had the choice again he would have remained playing football. "I wouldn't say I regret it, but the other day someone asked me about my decision. If it was now, I would choose football because more doors are open for footballers in Jamaica. I started to play competitive football from about the age of eight. I remember my dad encouraging me from a young age. I played as a left winger. My football highlight came playing for Jamaica U17s in the Caribbean football qualifiers. I scored a hat-trick against Bermuda in a 5-0 win to help Jamaica qualify for the CONCACAF [Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football] section of the U17 World Cup."
