His identical twin brother Jonathan and his younger brother Dylan have also competed in sprints for Belgium. His older sister Olivia won silver in the 4x100m relay at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, a result upgraded to gold in 2016 following an anti-doping violation by the original winners from the Russian Federation. His father Jacques represented Belgium in the 400m at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. (Borlees Facebook page, 14 Feb 2016; eu.usatoday.com, 09 Sep 2016; european-athletics.org, 09 Oct 2015; worldathletics.org, 03 Sep 2019; SportsDeskOnline, 08 May 2020)
:
He injured his back in September 2019 but recovered to compete at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar. (teambelgium.be, 26 Sep 2019)

He sustained a stress fracture of a tarsus bone [foot] in 2009. His identical twin brother Jonathan had the same injury six weeks earlier. (european-athletics.org, 01 Mar 2012)
:
He took up athletics at age 16 in Belgium. (spikes.iaaf.org, 28 Jul 2015)
:
His father Jacques and older sister Olivia were involved in athletics, but he says he and his brothers taking up the sport was their own decision. "People sometimes think that we started because our dad wanted us to, but it was always our choice. I started running because I wanted to run fast. I don't think I would be here if I was just doing it for my dad or anybody else. I'm just happy and glad to do it with my brothers." (worldathletics.org, 03 Sep 2019)
:
He was honoured by the Belgian prime minister for winning bronze in the 400m at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, Republic of Korea. (clint.be, 13 Sep 2011)

He received the Golden Spike Award as the Royal Belgian Athletics League's Male Athlete of the Year in 2008, 2010 and 2011. (sporza.be, 10 Feb 2012)

In 2011 he received the Belgian National Sports Merit award. (sporza.be, 15 Dec 2012)

General Interest

General
NEW CLUB
In December 2020 he and his brothers joined the Olympic Essenbeek Halle [OEH] club, which is part of the Flemish Athletics League [VAL] in Belgium. They switched from Belgian Francophone League of Athletics [LBFA] club Racing Club de Bruxelles. "We have always strived to perform at the highest level and to represent Belgium at important meetings. This is why we believe that joining the Athletics League [VAL] will allow us to continue to perform at the highest level." (lesoir.be, 29 Dec 2020; sporza.be, 11 Dec 2020; Instagram profile, 11 Dec 2020)

EVEREST QUEST
In October 2019 he and his Belgian national 4x400m relay teammates, along with their coach Jacques Borlee, climbed to the Mount Everest base camp at 5364 metres above sea level. The idea behind the climb was a team-building exercise ahead of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, as well as a campaign to raise money for the SOS Children's Villages charity. The group completed the climb in 10 days. (lesoir.be, 30 Sep 2019; sporza.be, 05 Nov 2019; hln.be, 06 Nov 2019; 7sur7.be, 08 Nov 2019)
