Her mother Jolanta Bartczak represented Poland in athletics [long jump] at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, and won bronze at the 1988 European Championships in Budapest, Hungary. "My mother was a long jumper. She encouraged me to try the sport. So that's why I began training two to three times a week and had fun with it. When I was a junior, I started training more often, and after the Polish youth championships I thought that maybe it was worth focusing on athletics, that there might be something there. I mostly started with long jump, although it was really a mix of everything, a bit of sprinting, high jump, heptathlon.
