NEW EVENT
In 2020 he began training for the 800m, having previously specialised in the 400m hurdles. He went on to win gold in the 800m at the 2021 European Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland, in March 2021. He said he intended to begin competing in both the 800m and 400m hurdles. "In the winter, for the [2021] indoor season it was going to be 400m or 800m and I decided 800 because it was a little easy. 25 seconds per 200 metres, for me, coming from 400 hurdles, it's easy. I had felt good when running 600 metres in training. I felt like a fish to water. I had originally aimed to start competing in the 800m in 2020, after the Olympic Games in Tokyo. But when the Games were postponed, I decided not to wait. I am not the youngest anymore. So my coach and I decided that this was the right moment. I think we will try to combine both disciplines. The speed required for the 400m hurdles will be useful in the 800m, and the endurance of the 800m will help me over shorter distances." (wp.pl, 08 Mar 2021; worldathletics.org, 02 May 2021)
