"It all started with figure skating. Then at age eight I started doing acrobatics, which I practised for four years. I liked it, but it was probably not really for me as I didn't set any goals for myself. In short, it was routine. But I was always good at running, so at school competitions the coach Iosif Trakhimchik noticed me. I resisted for a long time, probably for four years, I didn't want to do athletics, I had other interests. But in the ninth grade [at school] there was a 500m event, I competed in it, and finished first in my age category.
