The British team were ranked fifth at Rio 2016. It was their best result in the women's team all-around competition at the Olympic Games since they won bronze when the event was first contested at the Games in 1928.

Great Britain secured their ticket for Tokyo 2020 through the 2019 World Championships in Stuttgart, where they finished sixth. They have won one world championship medal in 14 appearances at the tournament since 1994, a bronze in 2015 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The British women placed fourth at the 2018 European Championships. Their best results at the tournament are silver medals in 2010, 2014, and 2016.
