General Interest

General
Mexico earned a spot at their third straight Olympic Games by winning the final Olympic qualification tournament, which was held in June 2021. At the tournament held in Paris, they topped the qualification round before defeating Slovakia, Indonesia and Italy on route to the final. In the final, with their place at the 2020 Games already secured, they overcame the US team to claim the title.

In their two previous Olympic appearances, the Mexican women's recurve team finished seventh at the 2012 Games in London and fifth at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. In Rio in 2016, they beat Georgia in the first elimination round but lost out to Chinese Taipei 5-4 in the quarterfinals.

The team have only reached the podium at the world championships on one occasion, taking silver in 2017. They slid down the rankings at the most recent edition of the tournament in 2019, failing to reach the quarterfinals and finishing with an overall ranking of ninth.

Mexico have enjoyed more success at continental level. They arrive in Tokyo as the reigning Pan American champions after claiming the title at the 2021 Pan American Championships on home soil in Monterrey. They also finished on the podium at the last three editions of the Pan American Games, claiming gold in 2011 followed by silver medals in 2015 and 2019.
