:
She grew up close to an archery range and was always interested in the sport, but her parents did not have sufficient resources to pay for the equipment she needed to start. However, an opportunity presented itself one day when her sister fell off her bike and one of the coaches from the range came over to help. Valencia took the chance to talk to the coach and show her interest in the sport, and he managed to source a bow for her. "I don't consider archery to be a sport but as a part of me because, even if I wanted to, I cannot stop doing it. On occasions I've tried [not practising it] to experience how it feels, but I feel awful." (unison.mx, 01 Sep 2018; rtv.org.mx, 08 May 2012; mexico.cnn.com, 22 Sep 2011)
