General Interest

General
The French men's archery team booked their place in Tokyo through the Olympic qualification tournament held in Paris in June 2021. Despite losing to the United States of America in the semifinals, they bounced back to beat Ukraine in the third-place play-off and clinch the final Olympic qualifying spot.

Tokyo 2020 will be France's eighth Olympic appearance at the Games, having competed in all but one edition [2008] of the Olympic team event since 1988. However, they are still searching for a place on the podium, with a fourth-place finish in 1992, following defeat to Great Britain in the bronze medal match, representing their best performance at the Olympic Games. Most recently, they reached the quarterfinals at the 2016 Games in Rio, where they lost to Australia and ended the tournament with an overall ranking of fifth.

France have enjoyed more success at the world championships, earning a total of 10 podium finishes, including titles in 1939 and 1993. They have achieved four podium finishes in the last six editions of the tournament [silver in 2009, 2011, 2017, and bronze in 2013]. At the most recent edition in 2019, however, they suffered a defeat to Chinese Taipei in the second knockout round, leaving them ranked ninth overall.

The French men's team are two-time European champions, with their most recent title coming in 2014. They finished ranked ninth at the last three editions of the European championships.
