General Interest
At the Rio 2016 Games, Venezuela won three medals, two silver and one bronze, making it the NOC's joint most successful Games in terms of total medals won. Boxer Yoel Finol in the men's flyweight division and women's triple jumper Yulimar Rojas won silver medals, while Stefany Hernandez won bronze in the women's individual BMX competition.
Venezuelan athletes have won two gold medals since the NOC made its Olympic debut at the London 1948 Games. The first gold was won by light flyweight boxer Francisco Rodriguez at the 1968 Games in Mexico City.
At the London 2012 Games, Venezuela won its second gold medal when Ruben Limardo took the men's individual epee title - Venezuela's first fencing medal at the Olympic Games.
The 1984 Games were Venezuela's equal-most successful by total number of medals won. Two boxers, Jose Marcelino Bolivar and Omar Catari Peraza, and butterfly swimmer Rafael Vidal all won bronze medals.
Prior to Rio, only two Venezuelan women had won medals, and both in taekwondo. Adriana Carmona was the first, she took bronze in the 67kg division at the 2004 Games and four years later Dalia Contreras matched her result in the 49kg division.
