General Interest

Seychelles made its Olympic debut at the 1980 Games in Moscow where a team of 11 athletes competed in athletics and boxing events. Michael Pillay got the NOC's most notable result at those first Games, winning one bout in the men's welterweight boxing event before dropping his second bout, ultimately finishing ranked in equal ninth.

Since those first Games, athletics has continued to be the sport in which athletes from Seychelles have competed in most regularly but it is boxing in which the NOC has had the most significant results.

Rival Cadeau finished fifth in the men's light middleweight division at the 1996 Games. He won two bouts to reach the quarterfinals in Atlanta but could go no further in what were his second Games. Cadeau's effort equalled that of his countryman Roland Raforme who finished fifth in the light heavyweight division in Barcelona four years earlier.

Swimmer Kenny Roberts was the first Seychellois to compete at three Games. He competed at his first Games in 1992 when he was just 14 years old and went on to attend the 1996 and 2000 events. Allan Julie, a Finn and Laser sailor, surpassed Roberts' record, competing at five Games between 1996 and 2016. His best result came at Athens 2004 when he placed 20th in the Laser open class.

Roberts is one of many young teenage swimmers to compete for the NOC. At age 13 years and 340 days, Dwayne Benjamin Didon was the youngest male athlete at the 2008 Games in Beijing when he competed in the men's 50m freestyle event.
