General Interest
Liberia first competed at the Olympic Games in 1956 in Melbourne, sending an all-male team of four to compete in athletics events. Since then, the NOC has missed just four Games [1968, 1976, 1980 and 1992].
Grace Dinkins was the NOC's first female Olympian, she raced the 100m event in Los Angeles in 1984, her first Games. She then competed over 400m in 1996 and again over 100m at her third and final Games in 2000 as a 34-year-old. Her three appearances at the Olympic Games are a record for the NOC.
At the Rio 2016 Games, a two-athlete delegation represented Liberia in athletics events. Neither athlete advanced past their heats, although sprinter Emmanuel Matadi set a new national record in the men's 200m with a time of 20.49s.
