Kosovo - Profile
General Interest
Kosovo made its debut at the Rio 2016 Games, after the NOC was officially recognised by the IOC in December 2014. Kosovo sent a delegation of eight athletes across five sports.
Judoka Majlinda Kelmendi was the NOC's flag bearer at the opening ceremony in Rio. Kelmendi competed for Albania four years earlier in London when she was unable to represent Kosovo, losing in the second round of the 52kg division. She was crowned world champion in Rio de Janeiro in 2013 and went on to make history in the city at the 2016 Olympic Games by claiming Kosovo's first Olympic medal, a gold in the 52kg category.
