General Interest

Guam sent a delegation of athletes to the Olympic Games for the first time in 1988 and has competed at each edition of the Games since. More competitors have represented the NOC in athletics [19 athletes] and swimming [15 athletes] than in any other sports. Guamanian athletes are yet to win a medal at the Olympic Games.

At the 1988 Games in Seoul, swimmer Jon Sakovich competed in six events but did not progress past his heat in any of them. His teammate in 1988, Patrick Sagisi, represented Guam for the first time in Seoul, and then went on to compete at Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996. The only other Guamanian athlete to have competed at three editions of the Games is sailor Jan Ivan Iriate - also between 1988 and 1996.

The oldest athlete to represent Guam at the Olympic Games is distance runner Lourdes Klitzke. She placed 63rd in the women's marathon at age 48 years and 234 days in 1988 in Seoul. There has also been a father and son duo compete for the NOC. Ricardo Blas fought in the men's +100kg judo competition in Seoul, while his son Ricardo Blas Jr. represented Guam in the same sport and weight division at Beijing 2008 and London 2012.
