General Interest

Italy won silver at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, after second-place China was disqualified, moving Italy up from bronze to silver. This was the team's third Olympic medal, all of which have been affected by disqualifications of the Chinese team.

Initially finished fourth at Sochi 2014, after Arianna Fontana fell during a changeover in the final. However, the team later moved up to bronze medal position after China was disqualified. A bronze at their home Games in Torino in 2006 came after they again crossed the line in fourth position, only to benefit from the disqualification of the Chinese team and move up to third.

The Italian team have been crowned world champions on two occasions, in 1980 and 1996. Their most recent medal at the World Championships came in 2021, where they claimed bronze.

Italy finished in fifth place in the 2021/22 World Cup rankings, with two bronze medals won in Nagoya and Dordrecht.
