General Interest

The Netherlands marked their Olympic debut at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games with a fourth-place finish. They recovered from a fall during the first lap, in which Freek van der Wart slipped and collided with Chinese skater Wu Dajing and Nurbergen Zhumagaziyev of Kazakhstan, to finish ahead of Kazakhstan in the five-team final.

At PyeongChang 2018, a penalty in the semi-final, awarded after a collision between Sjinkie Knegt (NED) and Samuel Girard (CAN) on the final corner kept the reigning world champion Dutch team out of the final rankings in their second Olympic appearance.

The Dutch team made their return to the World Championships in 2011 after a 10-year absence from the event. They have won 13 medals in all, claiming their seventh world title in 2021.

The team also clinched gold at the 2021/22 World Cup in Beijing, cementing their sixth place in the world rankings.
