Brother Melle van 't Wout (Short track): World Junior Championship relay silver medallist in 2019. Two career World Cup podiums, both at Dresden event in February 2020, finishing third in the 500m and relay.
2019 World Cup in Nagoya (1500m - 25th)
September 2019: Cut his cheek and lost two teeth in a collision with Vladislav Bykanov (ISR). Required a titanium bolt to be inserted into his cheek and was left with a 12cm scar on the right side of his face. Has two false teeth, one of them gold.

Began skating in Bracebridge, ON, Canada, where he initially learned to play ice hockey before taking up short track in 2014. (schaatsen.nl, 3 Jan 2019)
"At first I didn't like it. I thought ice hockey was much cooler. Once we moved to the Netherlands, I discovered short track was also a lot of fun. You skate hard and you fly round the corners.
