Team Persinger/Plys

General Interest

Four years ago, the United States were represented by 2018 and 2022 women’s and men’s four-player athletes Becca and Matt Hamilton. The siblings finished sixth at PyeongChang with a 2-5 record, defeating Norway and Olympic Athletes of Russia (OAR).

At World Championships, the US has captured two bronze medals. In 2016, Beijing women’s team skip Tabitha Peterson teamed up with 2006 Olympic bronze and 2018 Olympic gold medallist Joe Polo, while in 2019, five-time Olympian and 2018 men’s team champion John Shuster partnered Cory Christensen.

At the 2021 World Mixed Doubles Championship, Peterson and Polo finished seventh and lost a direct qualifying match against the Czech Republic for a berth to Beijing. This forced the 2021 US mixed doubles champions, Vicky Persinger and Chris Plys, into the Olympic Qualifying Event at Leeuwarden. The duo grabbed the second and final berth into Beijing 2022 with a taut 6-4 victory over ROC (Russian Olympic Committee).

Persinger first approached Plys to team up at the 2018 World Men’s Championship in Las Vegas. Their domestic trials and OQE wins were their first major competition titles as a team, culminating in a current season 15-3 record with a scoring average of 8.83 points per game and an average points loss of 6.55.

World Ranking: 5th (42.954 pts)
