General Interest

NOT IDEAL
Fairbanks Curling Club did not install ice during the 2020/21 season, leaving her with zero on-ice training options prior to the 2021 US Championships. She threw practice stones in Minnesota for seven days—out of 365 days of that year—before the nationals.

RE-FOCUS
Was left stunned when her women’s team lost the 2017 U.S. Olympic Trials final. “Not to be dramatic, but it’s like someone died.” She consulted a sports psychologist to find value in the journey rather than results. “We place so much focus on the Olympics. You need to take a step back and realize all the things that are in the journey to get to the Olympics. What part of those do you enjoy? Because those are important too. Part of me, even when I win, totally feels for those who don’t, because I have been there.” (adn.com, 22 Jan 2022)

ALASKA FOREVER
“I love living here. I don’t know why. I think it’s just because I don’t know any better. I just don’t want to leave here.” (Athlete, 6 Jan 2022)

Teammate Christ Plys said, “She’s an Alaskan through and through. She’s never leaving.” (Chris Plys, duluthnewstribune.com, 25 Dec 2021)
