Has trained individually over the past two years due to the pandemic. On-ice between four and five days per week. Off-ice, pre-pandemic workouts were four days per week.
Before the 2007 Winter Universiade championship final, his father surprised him by arriving from Africa (where he was helping to build a school) to watch him compete.
