Team Peterson

General Interest

The US women will be looking for a breakthrough at Beijing 2022; their highest finish in six previous Olympiads is a fourth-place at their home Games at Salt Lake City 2002. Nina Roth’s foursome returns from PyeongChang 2018 with two lineup changes – one new player and a back-end switch which sees Roth now throwing third stones for skip Tabitha Peterson.

At World Championships, the United States has seven podium finishes and one victory, in 2003. Their last medal was a bronze scored at the 2021 World Championships by Team Peterson, which has prompted observers to label them a “dark horse” for medal success in Beijing. That third-place finish at Calgary qualified the United States in third place for Beijing 2022.

This season, Team Peterson has a strong 32-7 won/loss record over five tournaments, including victory at the US Olympic Trials. Three other trips on the World Curling Tour have brought outright wins, while their Grand Slam appearance garnered them a fifth-place result. Their scoring average is a whopping 9.62 points per game against an average of only 5.97 points.

Team Peterson is 13-14 in head-to-head battles with the Beijing field. Most matchups are either 1-1 or 2-2, although they are 2-3 against Korea and Switzerland, 1-3 versus Japan and 2-0 against Canada – both narrow 6-5 wins, one in an extra-end. In these matchups, their PF/G average is just 5.48 versus a PA/G average of 6.30.

World Ranking: 6th (52.848 pts)
