Team Hasselborg

General Interest

Most successful women's team at the Olympic Winter Games, winning a medal at every contest except Salt Lake City 2002. Anette Norberg led the Swedes to their first two gold medals, defeating Switzerland in an extra end at Torino 2006, and a come from behind victory win against Canada in Vancouver 2010, scoring two on the final end to force an extra end and snatch victory.

Anna Hasselborg led Sweden at PyeongChang 2018, finishing the round robin stage in second with a 7-2 record. After losing to hosts Republic of Korea 7-6 in the round robin, the gold medal game was expected to be close, but Team Hasselborg restricted Korea to only three points. Their 8-3 victory was the second time Sweden defeated a host nation in the gold medal game (Vancouver 2010).

With eight World Championship titles, Sweden sits second behind Canada in overall victories, but the Scandinavian nation has failed to win a championship since 2011, with four runner-up finishes since then. Team Hasselborg has been to back-to-back finals in 2018 and 2019, losing in an extra end on both occasions.

Dominating the European championships with 21 victories, including a six year stretch from 2001-2005, Sweden returned to their winning ways with back-to-back victories in 2018 and 2019, scoring two shots on the final end, to claim one point victories against Switzerland (2018) and Scotland (2019). Playing in the final against Scotland again in 2021, the Swedes were trailing by one going into the final end, but without the hammer, conceded two points to lose 7-4 to Team Muirhead.

This season, Team Haaselborg have a 29-16 won/loss record with a 7.05 points per game average versus an average of 5.96 points scored against. They played in one of the two Grand Slam events hosted this season, winning the title, and took silver at the Europeans and the Women’s Masters Basel.

In head-to-head matchups against the Beijing field, Sweden are 81-75 overall but 44-31 over the past four seasons. In this quadrennial they are a perfect 5-0 against Canada, 9-4 versus Japan, 11-9 against Switzerland, 8-6 versus Great Britain and 6-5 when facing ROC.

Sweden qualified for Beijing 2022 after finishing fourth at the 2021 World Championships in Calgary.

World Ranking: 1st (81.013 pts)
