General Interest

At their Olympic Winter Games debut at Vancouver 2010, the People’s Republic of China, led by Wang Bingyu, won bronze against Switzerland (12-6), which included scoring four points in the eighth end that led to Mirjam Ott (SUI) conceding the match. The Chinese qualified again in 2014 and 2018, but finished with a 4-5 record both times.

At the 2009 World Championship in Gangneung, the Chinese women’s team became the first nation outside North America or Europe to win a world title. The quartet of Wang Bingyu, Liu Yin, Yue Qingshuang and Zhou Yan defeated Sweden’s Olympic and World Championship gold medallist skip Anette Norberg. They were also runners-up in 2008 and bronze medallists in 2011. The Chinese team has failed to make the playoffs since.

The Chinese team has won eight gold, five silver and three bronze medals at the Pacific-Asia championships, sitting second behind Japan, with 16 gold medals. Six gold and five silver were won by teams skipped by Wang Bingyu. PR China returned to the top of the podium again in 2019, dominating the Republic of Korea 8-2 in the semifinal and Japan 10-3 in the gold medal game.

China held comprehensive Olympic Trials at two locations in Beijing over a six-week period in November and December 2021. Selection decisions were based on results and performance markers as well as previous competition records and data.

People’s Republic of China qualified for Beijing 2022 as host national after finishing 10th at the 2021 World Championship in Calgary.

World Ranking: 9th (39.504 pts)
