General Interest

“We have good players, we trust our way for curling, and we pushed them a lot on the physical performance, not just curling skills. Han has both of those elements taken care of. She is a very good player, and will lead our team to be ready for the Olympic challenge.” (Coach, chinadaily.com, 9 Dec 2021)

HOCKEY CAREER
Played ice hockey in Italy’s Serie A and Serie A2 competitions with SG Cortina from 1986-96, excluding a one-year stint with HC Fiemme Cavalese (1989-90). Represented Italy at two World Junior Championships, finishing eighth in Group B in 1987 and second in Group C in 1988. “I am a former hockey player on ice, but my true love is curling.” (eliteprospects.com; ilfoglio.it, 2 Aug 2020)

FOLLOWING FATHER
Father, Lino Mariani Maier, was a member of the first Italian curling team to compete at the World Championships in 1973, finishing ninth. Competed again the following year, but finished tenth. “My father was one of the first four Italian players to participate in a (World Championships) in this discipline and it is a legacy that I carry with me.” (ilfoglio.it, 2 Aug 2020)

HOME OLYMPICS
Member of the first Italian curling team to compete at the Olympic Winter Games at Torino 2006. Being a native of Cortina d’Ampezzo, he is looking forward to coaching at a “home” Olympic Winter Games at Milano Cortina 2026. “My home has no equal, thinking about those Games with the Italian national team or with another national team is very fascinating. I am a professional, at the moment my plan is China until 2022. I want to have fun here, then we'll see.” (ilfoglio.it, 2 Aug 2020)
