Began curling at age 12, while in junior high school. “When I first started, I didn’t know what curling was, and I was very curious, so I voluntarily signed up. Chinese teams normally spend months in Canada training and competing on the World Curling Tour. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, Chinese curlers trained at two facilities in Beijing - the National Training Centre located in the west and the “challenger’s training centre” in the southern suburbs.

“The arrangement of having to shift between two venues also gives us a feel for adapting to different ice conditions, lighting and acoustics within the building, which all make a difference in this sport of concentration.” (chinadaily.com, 9 Dec 2021)

DOMESTIC SERIES FOR OLYMPIC HOPEFULS
A six-leg domestic series was created where two teams of Olympic hopefuls faced challenger teams comprised of veterans and former international players. The hopefuls were ranked after every two legs of the series, with the top-ranked athlete in each position selected for the Olympic roster. She described the trials as a steep learning curve. “A competition like this that offers open and equal chances for everybody to go for the Olympic spots works pretty well to focus my mind tactically.” (chinadaily.com, 9 Dec 2021; chinadaily.com.cn, 9 Dec 2021)

Milestones

Made her international debut at the Lillehammer 2016 Youth Olympic Winter Games. Her mixed team finished 11th, but her mixed doubles pairing with Ross Whyte of Great Britain (alternate for Team Mouat) resulted in a silver medal.

Competed at the 2021 World Championships in Calgary, where she lead the team to a respectable 6-7 win/loss record, finishing 10th out of 14 teams. Her victories were a 5-2 win over PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games bronze medallists Japan (led by skip Satsuki Fujisawa), a 7-6 win over Scotland’s Eve Muirhead, and a 7-5 victory over the defending Olympic champions from Sweden (skipped by Anna Hasselborg).

Threw fourth stones for Jiang Jiayi at the 2019 World Junior Championships. The team went 8-1 through the round-robin and were the number one seed in the playoffs where they lost in the semi-final to Russia's Vlada Rumiantseva and the bronze medal game to Switzerland, finishing fourth.

Was surprised by her selection to skip at the 2019 Pacific-Asia Championships, which resulted in the gold medal. “I didn’t think I would be chosen because of the more experienced teammates on the team. I was afraid I would not do well.” (Beijing Daily, 20 May 2021)
