OLYMPIC GAMES HISTORY
After Eritrea gained independence from Ethiopia in May 1993, the NOC first competed at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, represented by two males and one female in athletics.
At Athens 2004, Zersenay Tadesse won a bronze medal for Eritrea in the men's 10,000m. Eritrean athletes have competed in only two sports at the Olympic Games - athletics (20 men, three women) and road cycling in 2012, 2016 and 2020.
In 2018 Shannon-Ogbani Abeda became Eritrea's first Winter Olympian, competing in men's Alpine skiing slalom and giant slalom.
