His friend invited him to join the able-bodied tennis club at his middle school. He then met a wheelchair tennis player when he was working in the wheelchair department at an assistive equipment manufacturing company. He decided to focus on the sport after he injured his right leg, where he usually wears a prosthesis, and also underwent surgery on his left leg due to a torn meniscus.
