"I've always been pretty active. I played rugby when I was young and got into surfing and snowboarding, so getting into a wheelchair didn't stop my love for sport. It was a massive adjustment but there are many opportunities if you are willing to get on with it. Also, watching [the 2005 wheelchair rugby documentary] 'Murderball' helped a lot. You got to hear about their rugby but also their lives and that was a real motivation for me." (nzherald.co.nz, 25 Sep 2019)

"We all get tools to teach us certain skills or functions in life, but as individuals we are so different, and if we don't adapt our own style or way of doing things we'll never reach our full potential. It's easy to go along with the status quo in life but that'll only get us so far." (support4sport.co.nz, 18 Jun 2020)
