He began fencing in 2002. (paralympic.ca, 26 Apr 2012)
:
He took up fencing six months after his impairment. "I truly thought my time had come, but after the event, I gave myself to my sport entirely. Thanks to fencing, I managed to go ahead in life. When I was injured myself, I realised when you have limits they are often self-imposed. I tried different sports in a wheelchair - sledge hockey, wheelchair basketball and sailing, but when I found fencing I fell in love with it because I was always better in individual sports." Acquired (paralympic.ca, 01 Jun 2021)

Impairment Details
He has paraplegia as the result of a shooting incident in 2001. He was shot six times while travelling with three friends when a man shot at their car with a handgun. One of his friends died and two more were injured. "When I had this accident, I was so sure that I was about to die. But when I woke up and had my arms, I was so happy to know I could do something. It happened to me at the age of 27, and at the age of 17, one of my best friends had an accident and he was paraplegic. So I knew there was a life after paraplegia. So when I woke up in the hospital and they told me I lost the use of my legs, I was happy it was only that. I cannot say I am sad about what happened. I'm a happy guy now. I have a family. I travel around the world." (paralympic.ca, 01 Jun 2021; nationalpost.com, 11 Sep 2016)

General
FINAL GAMES
He says he expects the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo to be his final appearance at a Games. "I'm very happy to be selected for the Tokyo Games at what will be my last Paralympic Games." (newswire.ca, 09 Jul 2021)

OTHER ACTIVITIES
Prior to his accident he worked as a test technician for a car research and development company. He has also been a mentor for Promethe, a programme that helps people who drop out of high school. (paralympic.ca, 01 Jun 2019; fencing.ca, 08 Sep 2012)
