General
BREAK FROM FENCING
He took up able-bodied fencing as a child before giving up the sport after an injury at age 13, which caused him pain when he fenced. In 2012 he had surgery that reduced the pain and enabled him to return to fencing, first in able-bodied competitions before learning about wheelchair fencing. "If I had known [about wheelchair fencing] 20 or 30 years ago, I would have done more of that as a youngster, I would have been very fast." FURTHER EDUCATION
