General Interest

General
The Canadian team qualified for Tokyo by winning gold at the 2019 Parapan American Games. They are three-time Paralympic gold medallists but the team last finished on the podium at the 2004 Games in Athens.

Canada's three titles came at consecutive editions of the Games between 1992 and 2000. They faced different teams in each gold medal match, beating the United States of America in 1992, the Netherlands in 1996, and Australia in 2000. At Athens 2004, the Canadians were defeated 57-40 by the US team in the semifinals but they recovered to beat Germany in the bronze medal match and secure their fourth podium finish at the Paralympic Games. Canada have exited at the quarterfinal stage at the three editions of the Games since then, losing to Australia at Beijing 2008, the United States of America at London 2012, and the Netherlands at Rio 2016.

Canada are by far the most successful team at the world championship, claiming five titles between 1994 and 2014. They faced the United States of America in the final at four consecutive tournaments between 1994 and 2006, and emerged as victors on each occasion. The Canadians beat Germany in the final in 2014, but at the 2018 World Championship in Hamburg they were knocked out at the quarterfinal stage by the People's Republic of China.
