General Interest

General
The Republic of Korea booked their ticket to Tokyo through their performance at the 2019 Asia Oceania Championships in Thailand. Despite losing the final 62-45 to Australia, they had already secured their qualification for the 2020 Games by reaching the semifinals.

Tokyo will be the Republic of Korea's first appearance on the Paralympic stage since 2000. At the 2000 Games in Sydney, they recorded their first victory at the Paralympic Games, beating South Africa 75-42 in the 15th-place classification match, following five defeats in the group stage and a further defeat to Mexico in a classification match. Their only other appearance at the Paralympic Games came in 1988 on home soil in Seoul, where they lost all six of their matches to finish the tournament ranked 16th out of 16 teams.

The Korean team have competed at five editions of the world championships, with their best performance coming on home soil in 2014 when they placed sixth. At the 2018 edition in Germany, they lost all three of their pool phase matches before being eliminated by the Islamic Republic of Iran in the round of 16 and ultimately placing 14th.
