"After the accident in 2011, underwater therapy first developed into the breaststroke and later the crawl. In order to have more opportunities to do sport, I bought a hand cycle at the end of 2013. Then I thought, if I learn to drive a racing wheelchair, I can take part in triathlon. I spontaneously started racing at a triathlon event in Linz in 2014. CHOOSING RACES
He says he is careful about the races he enters and looks for information on whether the route is suitable for his wheelchair. "I would either speak to athletes who raced there in previous years, or ask the organiser directly. The running route with the racing wheelchair is the main criterion. Meadows, embankments, paths that are too narrow or curbs are an obstacle. Steep inclines are not possible with the racing wheelchair because it tips over. Gravel roads are not ideal either. That is the reason why I only competed in three triathlons in 2016. The decisive factor is the route itself. The organisers are open throughout. The athletes are always very relaxed and open-minded when it comes to competitions." (triyourlife.at, 05 Mar 2017)
