He originally competed in able-bodied taekwondo after getting involved in the sport in grade two of primary school, but quit in 2011. He decided to switch to Para taekwondo after encouragement from coach Jin Cheon-Soo, who told him that it was included in the programme for the 2020 Paralympic Games. "Most taekwondo athletes' workout routine is mainly to improve their stamina and endurance, but I'm concentrating on building muscles for quick movements and explosive strength. I used to put too much pressure on my body for strong kicks. Now I'm adapting to modern taekwondo style which is to relax my body and kick effortlessly while training with youngsters."
