She took up the sport in 2011. She was involved in wheelchair basketball and Para dance sport before being introduced to Para table tennis. "I felt in love with table tennis since then. I left dance and basketball. I played for one year on my wheelchair, I raised my level, and then I was told I had to be reclassified to start playing standing." (la-prensa.com.mx, 15 Oct 2020)

In 2008 she got involved in sport as a way to combat depression after she went through a divorce and became overweight. "I was having a bad time, so I went to therapy and a psychologist advised me to find a distraction. I was shy about leaving home in my wheelchair and I weighed over 150 kilograms. I sought out Para sport, and seeing other Para athletes who were independent helped me so much. When I discovered Para sport I loved it." (la-prensa.com.mx, 15 Oct 2020)
