General
DIAGNOSIS
When she was diagnosed with polyarteritis nodosa at age 17 doctors told her to give up sport. "At that time I did the only thing I could and carelessly decided to keep on playing. I continued with table tennis because it is my life. But it was clear that my dreams of representing France at the Olympic Games were over. I could no longer train for several hours a day, as I had to deal with this disease that medicine knew little about. It was probably the most difficult test of my life, accepting it." She says a turning point came when she saw a doctor in Paris, France, who was researching her condition. "It was a meeting that changed my life. She obviously didn't have a miraculous cure but she made my daily life easier. Some years later, the first doctor I saw in Rennes told me they had not taken my case seriously. It was thanks to all this context that I built up a strong character. I used to hide my illness. Now I love my life and I am happy with what I have accomplished and I am proud of my victories. But it is, above all, a victory for life over impairment." (sans-filtre.fr, 14 Jun 2018)
