SWIMMING DIARY
He began writing a diary in order to maintain his mental focus following a suggestion from his father. "It is all about controlling my mind. If I could have done that, I wouldn't have been defeated [in the qualification meet for the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro]. I followed his advice, thinking that writing down what went well may help me work hard again the next day. When you actually write it, it makes it stand out. As I continued writing in my 'notebook of success', I became less and less negative, and was eventually able to tackle tough training with a positive frame of mind, even when I was up against the odds." (tokyo2020.org, 05 Feb 2021; parasapo.tokyo, 09 Nov 2019)
