She began swimming in 2014 as part of an aquatic rehabilitation session recommended by her physiotherapist. "Admittedly, when he suggested this form of therapy, I almost fell out of my wheelchair. I had envisioned sports such as handcycling or wheelchair basketball. Nonetheless, he convinced me to try swimming and this is where my journey begins." Impairment Details
In 2010 she experienced a sudden onset of facial paralysis and numbness, as well as tingling and weakness on her left side. This led to her spending the next five months in hospital as doctors tried to figure out the cause of her symptoms. She was diagnosed with a rare neurological muscle disease called dystonia in January 2012. In August 2014 she had a setback, experiencing seizures, and was hospitalised for two months.
