Origin of Impairment
Acquired (uottawa.ca, 07 Sep 2016)

Impairment Details
She has limited use of both legs after cancer [neuroblastoma] was detected after she was born. A tumour was removed from her lower back, which resulted in partial paralysis. "At first, the doctors said that I had no more than a 30% chance of survival, that I would not be able to walk or sit and maybe even have intellectual damage. I was more at risk of having heart problems, another childhood cancer and greater aggravations later on. None of this was true and the specialists never cease to be amazed. We think that swimming may or may not have helped avoid more complications or at least delay them. I like to think that sport has, in a certain way, saved my life." General
VISUALISING THE WATER
When the COVID-19 pandemic forced her training facilities to close, she would meditate and visualise being in the water as a form of training. "Swimming is such a unique sport. It's about the feeling of the water. You almost become one with the water. When you get back to the pool you feel awkward. It's just a feeling you can't get anywhere else. I visualise the first 50 metres of my backstroke. I'll sit there and ground myself in the moment. I use peppermint essential oil. I'll close my eyes. I'm not watching myself swimming. I'm embodying the experience. I'm in the water. I'm trying to feel the water." (cbc.ca, 18 Mar 2020; ici.radiocanada.ca, 30 Aug 2020)

BREAK FROM COMPETING
She decided to take a break from competing to focus on finishing her studies at the University of Ottawa in 2017/18, but still continued to train. "I am happy to have had the time to define myself outside the sport. Being away from high performance and pressure is good, but I'm ready to re-embark." (ici.radio-canada.ca, 17 Jul 2018)

OTHER ACTIVITIES
After completing a bachelor's degree in communications and women's studies at the University of Ottawa in 2018, she began working for the Canadian Paralympic Committee in October 2018. (LinkedIn profile, 01 Oct 2018)
