Due to problems with his spine, he was being examined at the Soca Rehabilitation Centre when the competitors of the 2016 Paralympic Games came to visit. He was impressed by swimmers Darko Duric and Nino Batagelj, and decided to start training when Damijan Lazar, president of the organisation of Para sports, approached him, encouraged him to swim and connected him with coach Jana Cander. "I achieved a good result in the first race and then my coach and I realised that I could take swimming more seriously. Ever since I started swimming, it has had a very good effect on my health, and I have found that my life goal is to play this sport for the rest of my life."
